A bit of history… The English company, founded in 1938 by Jacques Spreiregen, a WWI Jewish Polish veteran, is predominantly famous for its headwear. Starting up producing hats for workers and soldiers, Spreiregen opened a factory in Cumbria in 1938, ran by him and his nephew. Fast forward to the 80s and Kangol goes from supplying soldiers to hip-hop performers, from strict to swagger. Bucket hats and berets featured on the heads of artists such as Notorious B.I.G. and Missy Elliot as well as Eminem and LL Cool J who sported the kangaroo.

A brand that has adorned Generals and Princesses, but also DJs and rappers, Kangol is one of the most diverse brands to date. Starting out as the brand for the Beatles, the 1980s saw a refocusing of where Kangol’s place in fashion was, soon adopted by the hip-hop culture. Referred to in material by Slick Rick, featured in films such as Straight Outta Compton and worn by Eminem in his ‘Beautiful’ video, Kangol has been fully embraced by popular culture.
