A bit of history… The world’s largest supplier of sportswear, Nike, originally named Blue Ribbon Sports, was first founded in 1964, becoming Nike Inc. in 1971. Taking its name from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, the brand adopted its ‘Swoosh’ logo a couple of weeks after its name change, first seen on a line of footwear. In the 80s, Nike apparel became a prominent feature in athleisure and youth fashion, led by the popularity of track jackets and shell suits. This continued in the 90s, but evolved into a more Gwen Stefani-esque look, with crop tops, baggy tracksuit bottoms and caps moving to the forefront of fashion. Devising slogans such as ‘There is no finish line’ and ‘Just do it’, Nike’s advertising has always promoted fierce will to achieve and aim high. Endorsed by Tiger Woods, LeBron James, as well as Jordan, Nike caught athletes in the early stages of their career and grew their brand alongside the growing popularity of the figures. Prominently featured in Forrest Gump and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Nike was a diverse brand that could be found everywhere.
