A bit of history… Fred Perry was a British tennis player, with eight Grand Slam wins and two Pro Slam titles under his belt. Winning three consecutive Wimbledon Championships in the 1930s, he was the last British player to win the famed trophy before Andy Murray’s victory. In the 1940s, Perry was approached by the footballer and inventor of the first sweatband, Tibby Wegner. Together they worked on the anti-perspirant wristband and released it as the first product in the Fred Perry line, basing the logo on the Wimbledon symbol. Following this, Perry released a sports shirt at Wimbledon in 1952, the now recognised classic Fred Perry polo shirt offered in a variety of colours.
Now one of the largest brands in casualwear and sportswear, Fred Perry can be seen on the likes of Andy Murray and Bradley Wiggins, who launched his own collection in 2015. In years past, bands from Oasis to Blur have worn the laurel wreath, with Liam Gallagher as one of the biggest 90s fans, and figures including Amy Winehouse, Vinnie Jones and Ewan McGregor have followed, emphasising how wide reaching this brand is.
