A bit of history… Fondly known as The Walt Disney Company, the studio was founded on the 16th October, 1923 by the Disney brothers, Walt and Roy. Quickly established as the leading contender in American animation, it soon entered the live-action film, television and theme park industries, enjoying great success within all. Releasing ground-breaking blockbusters such as Snow White (1937), Mary Poppins (1964), Jungle Book (1967) and Fantasia (1940), it is unsurprising that The Disney Store, opened in 1987, took off. Alongside selling plush toys, fancy dress outfits and themed homewares, the store created a clothing line, featuring t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and more. These items were printed and embroidered with various characters, predominantly Mickey Mouse, and became a huge hit, with consumers of all ages wearing the brand, giving it a retro aesthetic.
